My Story
My Story — Saving My Mondays
Hi, I'm a software developer from Türkiye, working remotely for a company abroad. This is the story of how I decided to take control of my financial future.
A Little About Me
I'm a software developer living in Türkiye and working for a company abroad.
I've spent years writing code, solving problems, learning new technologies, and building things. I genuinely enjoy what I do. There's something satisfying about turning an idea into something real, figuring out complicated problems, and constantly learning along the way.
But for a long time, there was one question I never really stopped to ask myself:
I've spent all these years working and building things for others. But what kind of future am I building for myself?
For years, I worked, earned money, spent it, and moved on to the next month.
I traveled, enjoyed life, bought things I wanted, and collected experiences along the way. I don't regret those moments. They're part of who I am, and I wouldn't trade them for a bigger number in a bank account.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something.
Despite all those years of working, I had never developed a consistent habit of saving and investing.
As a software developer, I understand the power of thinking long-term. Small improvements, repeated consistently, can eventually create something remarkable.
Yet somehow, I'd never applied that same mindset to my own financial future.
Time was passing, and I wasn't doing much today to create the freedom I wanted tomorrow.
Why Now?
In October 2026, I made a small promise to myself.
I would finally start saving and investing consistently.
Not because I expect to become rich overnight. Not because I've discovered some secret investment strategy. And certainly not because I know exactly what the future holds.
I simply decided that it was time to start.
My portfolio will probably include ETFs, gold, individual stocks, and whatever else makes sense for my personal circumstances as I learn along the way.
I'll make mistakes. I'll change my mind. I'll probably look back at some of my early decisions and wonder what I was thinking.
And that's okay.
Because this isn't about getting everything right from day one.
It's about showing up, month after month, and building something for my future self.
But there's something even more important than growing an investment portfolio.
I want to own more of my time.
Why Saving My Mondays?
Have you ever wondered why so many people spend their entire week looking forward to Friday?
Why Sunday evenings sometimes feel a little heavier?
Why Monday mornings often feel like something we have to survive rather than something we can look forward to?
I don't want to spend my entire life waiting for weekends.
I want to build a life where Mondays feel just as good as Saturdays.
A life where, one day, I can wake up on a Monday morning and decide for myself what that day will look like.
Maybe I'll wake up early, make some coffee, and read a book.
Maybe I'll work on a personal project simply because I enjoy it.
Maybe I'll be walking through the streets of a city I've never visited before.
Or maybe I'll do absolutely nothing.
And the best part?
I won't have to wait until Friday to feel that freedom.
That's where the name Saving My Mondays comes from.
I'm saving money today because I want more freedom over my time tomorrow.
Saving money. Making time.
What You'll Find Here
I didn't start this blog because I'm a financial expert.
I'm not one.
I won't tell you which stocks to buy, which ETFs to choose, or how to build your investment portfolio.
I don't want anyone making financial decisions based on what I happen to be doing with my own money.
Instead, this is simply a place to document my journey.
I'll share monthly investing updates, broad portfolio allocations, personal financial milestones, lessons learned, and the occasional mistake.
But this won't be just another investing blog.
Some weeks, I'll write about a book I've been reading.
Other times, it might be a trip, a quiet Sunday morning, something interesting I've learned, or simply a thought that's been on my mind.
There will be stories about work, everyday life, personal goals, and all the little things that make life interesting.
Because life is about so much more than the size of an investment portfolio.
And while I'm working toward financial independence, I don't want to forget to enjoy the life I'm living right now.
Where This Story Goes
I don't know when I'll reach financial independence.
Maybe it'll take longer than I expect.
Maybe life will throw a few surprises my way.
Maybe my goals will change completely somewhere along the journey.
I don't have a perfect plan, and I definitely don't have all the answers.
But that's part of what makes this interesting.
Years from now, I want to look back and see where I started, how I thought about money, what decisions I made, and how my life changed along the way.
That's why I'm here.
You probably won't find a perfect success story on this blog.
But you'll find a real journey.
October 2026. Starting from zero.
Let's see where the next few years take me.
And maybe, one day, I'll publish a post with a title I've already been dreaming about:
"The First Monday That Was Truly Mine."
Until then...
I'm saving my Mondays. One month at a time. 🌿
